Following Pahalgam Attack, Centre Advises States to Run Civil Defence Drills on May 7

After Pahalgam Terror Attack, India Steps Up Preparedness as Global Support Pours In

In the aftermath of the tragic terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22, which claimed the lives of 26 people, global leaders and Indian authorities have intensified their response.

During a phone conversation with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Russian President Vladimir Putin strongly condemned the attack. He stressed that those responsible—along with their backers—must be held accountable. President Putin also assured India of Russia’s full support in the fight against terrorism.

Back home, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has directed several states to conduct civil defence mock drills on May 7. According to government sources, the drills will include activating air raid sirens, rehearsing evacuation plans, and training civilians in basic civil defence techniques to enhance readiness in the event of future threats.

Meanwhile, tensions have escalated along the Line of Control (LoC). On Monday (May 5), the Indian Army reported small arms fire from multiple locations in Jammu and Kashmir, attributed to the Pakistani Army.

Amid rising geopolitical tension, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh met with Japan’s Defence Minister, Gen Nakatani, to discuss security challenges in the region, including terrorism and China’s assertiveness in the Indo-Pacific. Both sides agreed on strengthening defence ties to better tackle regional threats.

Interestingly, Pakistan’s ambassador in Moscow has reached out to Russian authorities, seeking their mediation in easing tensions between Islamabad and New Delhi following the Pahalgam attack.

As the situation unfolds, India continues to bolster its security measures while engaging global partners to combat the growing threat of cross-border terrorism.
